The Nelsons
It’s simple: Our goal is to make a life changing, positive impact in children’s lives through horses. Winning four equestrian World Championships was the springboard that helped me to accomplish my dream career that combines my passion for horses with my desire to mentor children. As a certified “AQHA Professional Horseman”, I’ve been blessed with over fifteen successful years working with horses and youth. Experience has taught me that success with horses is not just about mastering riding skills; horses can be powerful teachers and healers, and can give direct insight into ourselves and others.
“Harmonious Horsemanship” is what I call my teaching philosophy, which is based on insights gained through introspection and mutual respect between people and horses. Life skills (such as accountability, responsibility, listening and making good choices) are naturally and gently learned at ETC and Horse Play while riding. Guided properly, students tend to blossom and thrive, not only on horseback, but in all aspects of life.
Parents report that “my kids” become magically confident and more responsible at home. Happier parents and empowered children are confirmations that “Harmonious Horsemanship” can be a valuable asset to enhancing every-day family life, as well as for special needs children. ADHD children learn to focus and become attentive to their equine partner at ETC. A fascinating study done at Arizona State validates and documents just that!
“To place everything I feel about ETC into words is merely impossible. In my 8 years with Sissy, I have developed a truly unique and special relationship with her. Sissy is a role model to me, and I can only hope that one day I become half as successful as she. We have a special connection, and I trust her with everything. I started riding ETC when I was in 4th grade, and I was petrified. I was intimidated by the horses, and had little self confidence. Now I am a junior in high school, and have developed great strength. I have been an ETC Horse Camp counselor, Horse Play mentor, and been involved in many things I thought would never be possible. I know for a fact, that without Sissy…none of these personal growths would have happened. I have learned so many life lessons through Sissy and her horses. Without ETC, I would have a completely different outlook on life. Dealing with horses has been extremely therapeutic for me, physically and emotionally. Sissy and her husband Paul are two of the most extraordinary people I know, and I am blessed to have them in my life. The unconditional love and support that I receive at ETC is amazing. I can’t explain how appreciative and grateful I am for ETC, and for everything it has taught me. Any person interested in the Equestrian Training Center is going to be in great hands, and in for a real treat.”
