“When we enrolled Maddie for her first set of riding lessons, we thought it was just that –lessons in riding a horse. We quickly learned that lessons with Sissy are as much about life outside the arena as in it. “Make a plan.” “Be assertive.” “Trust yourself and trust me.” “Pay attention to all that’s going on around you.” “Put yourself in his/her position.” “Safety is always priority number one.” We suddenly watched our shy, anxious 7-year-old putting all of these techniques to use wherever she went, whatever she was doing. And before long, she was no longer a shy, anxious 7-year-old, but a confident, outgoing, patient (horse-loving!) 8-year-old. It’s hard to say which is more amazing: Sissy’s rapport with the horses, or her rapport with the children. But the two combined is nothing short of miraculous.” Teresa Edwards
